Zephyr Cove is a broad, pine-backed sweep of sandy beach on the Nevada east shore of Lake Tahoe — shallow, clear water and easy strolling along the sand, with the Sierra rising across the lake.
Zephyr Cove takes its name from the "Washoe Zephyr," the gusty west wind Mark Twain wrote about that blows over the lake most summer afternoons. Andrew Gardner built the Zephyr Cove House inn here in 1862 to serve Comstock-era silver prospectors.
