The East Shore of Lake Tahoe with the family — long afternoons on the beaches of the clear, cold lake, the kids wading in the shallows off the granite points, and the whole basin going gold and rose at sunset.

"Tahoe" comes from the Washoe word "Da ow a ga," meaning "edge of the lake" — early English speakers misheard the first syllables and the mispronunciation stuck.
