Carmel Valley runs inland from the Monterey coast into dry oak-and-grass hills — hot and golden in summer where the coast is fogged in, with valley oaks standing out across the slopes.
We spent a morning here walking the ranch trails leading pack donkeys, out along the fence lines and up through the oaks with the valley opening below.
