Bishop Ranch Regional Preserve rolls across the oak-dotted hills above San Ramon, a close-to-home patch of East Bay open space with easy grassy trails, seasonal creeks, and deer at dawn.
The preserve takes its name from Thomas Benton Bishop, a San Francisco lawyer who acquired the ranch in 1895 — reportedly as payment for legal work on one of Northern California's earliest divorce cases.
